Te Papa Ōtākaro/Avon River Precinct - Christchurch,

A new city waterfront is being created along the Ōtākaro/Avon River in the central city to make it easier to access the river surrounds.

A key feature will be a new City Promenade extending two kilometres through the heart of the precinct on the eastern side of the river, replacing Oxford Terrace. The western side of the river will be a green space with walking and cycling paths.

During 2017 & 2018 the Citygreen Stratavault Soil Structure System has been utilized on a number of sections of this project including the The Terraces, City Promenade and North Frame.

A number of challenges that were faced in these projects was the requirement to work around existing and new services, and the proximity of tram lines for the city trams.

Details of this exciting project in the heart of the Garden City can be viewed on the official Ōtākaro website: - https://www.otakaroltd.co.nz/anchor-projects/avon-river-precinct/

MetroGreen would like to acknowledge the work of the Landscape Architects - Rough and Milne, Ōtākaro, Christchurch City Council and Downer/Hawkins for the excellent collaboration on this project thus far.
