This splicing awl or bracing fid with its tubular wire basket has a rounded point, which is easy to insert into braided rope but will not do any damage. Its smooth surface reduces any friction and makes splicing easier.
To insert the rope, press down gently on the tubular basket. Once the rope has been inserted, release the basket The rope will then be securely attached. This fid works like a chinese finger trap. It is very useful for splicing hollow braid rope. It is designed for rope from 3/8" to 1/2" in diameter.
