Must-have Landscaping Tools

The lockdown boom of hobbyist gardeners has seen a new generation of greenthumbs taking to hardware stores around the world. We hung our pot plants, planted our favourite veggies and flowers, and hashtagged #lockdownlife on Instagram. But now we’re getting serious.

The lockdown boom of hobbyist gardeners has seen a new generation of greenthumbs taking to hardware stores around the world. We hung our pot plants, planted our favourite veggies and flowers, and hashtagged #lockdownlife on Instagram. But now we’re getting serious.

Once you’re hooked on the goodness of gardening, it’s hard to stop at just simple pot plants. The rest of your outdoor space looks set for a facelift and a quick job on the lawn roller or hedge clippers won’t quite do the job this time.

Alternatively, you might be a budding professional landscaper who loves the lockdown life and wants to turn this outdoor addiction into a full-time gig.

Whoever you are and whatever landscaping you have ahead of you, it’s time to get the tools to tackle any project because any job worth doing is worth doing right.

But where to start? That hardware store sure looks more like a maze when you don’t know what you’re looking for. Fortunately, you’ve come to the right blog to learn which tools are essential for a top-notch landscaping project.

 Protective Gear

Starting from the bottom, you’ll thank us later for recommending steel-toed footwear. Wielding that shovel or timber around can get tiring and moments of fatigue are when incidents occur.

Invest in some high-quality hard-wearing footwear before stepping into the garden and you’ll never have to worry about crushing a toe or kicking a stump.

Gloves are also an essential safety item in the garden, where thorns, splinters, bricks, and insects can all threaten to hurt your hands. We suggest MaxiFlex Ultimate Open Back Gloves because anything you use regularly is worth investing in.

A Shovel

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a landscaper without a good shovel. Speaking of things you’ll use regularly, your shovel will never be far from sight as it will be required for a majority of your landscaping projects.

We back Razorback shovels because they’re tough enough to dig in the hardest, rockiest soil. You just never know what’s sitting just below the surface, so it’s nice to have a shovel that will deal with anything.

A Wheelbarrow

Whether you’re adding or removing soil, stones, pavers, timber, plants, or garden accessories, a wheelbarrow is perfect for manoeuvring tricky garden paths.

Save yourself the time and effort of lugging bags, boxes, and individual pavers or planks, by including a sturdy wheelbarrow in your gardening arsenal.

They’re low-maintenance and should last you for years if you’re careful with heavier cargo – just keep an eye on the tyre pressure as this can affect how easily you can handle heavy loads.

Lawn Roller

A less common addition to the landscaper’s toolbox would be a lawn roller. This nifty tool is perfect for those finishing touches, after all the tough jobs are done and only the finishing touches remain.

Lawn rollers are good for rolling soil before laying turf, and for rolling afterwards too. You can also use them to repair lawn damage and remove air pockets that can potentially dry out the roots of plants and grass.
