Albert Street - CRL Project, Albert Street, Auckland Central

Extensive works were carried out in the Albert street area as part of the Auckland City Rail project. The Citygreen Stratacell system was used as part of the tree planting program in this project enabling the use of larger New Zealand native tree species to be planted.

Extensive works were carried out in the Albert street area as part of the Auckland City Rail project. Connectus completed building the twin underground rail tunnels down the middle of Albert Street between Wyndham Street and Customs Street in July 2019. After the tunnels were complete, Albert Street was backfilled up to road level, working progressively from Wyndham Street to Customs Street.

Reinstatement of Albert Street was largely completed by September 2020. Works to build an enhanced urban realm included construction of wider paved footpaths, new street furniture, new lighting and new utilities. Dedicated bus lanes and bus bays have also been constructed.  The Citygreen Stratacell system was used as part of the tree planting program in this project enabling the use of larger New Zealand native tree species to be planted.

Twenty-three mature native trees – totara, golden totara, pōhutukawa, black marie and puriri – were planted as part of the Albert Street upgrade.
